My Kaiser Wilhelm Beer Stein

This Beer Stein that has been in my family for generations.  It is made of pewter is is quite large. It has a bust of the Kaiser Wilhelm on the lid and had impressions of German and Austrian coins all along the sides.  The stein is 22 inches tall.  The detail is quite remarkable.  I know nothing about these things, but it appears that it was made to only be a decorative piece, not only due to size, but construction.

As with any antique, this piece comes with a world of folklore that has been passed down through the generations.  I was told that it belonged to the Kaiser Wilhelm himself and was some diplomatic gift.  The story goes on to say that it was stolen from his yacht and had remained hidden through the war years and was acquired by my Grandfather in the 1930's

While all that is very colorful, I am quite skeptical as there is nobody alive to collaborate any of that.

All that being said, this old stein has been a part of my life, my entire life.  I have it proudly displayed in my home, and that is where it will remain.  Now that there is an internet, I feel the time has come to try to find out the real story, if there is one, about this interesting piece.

If anyone has any information or can point me in a direction to find out more about this Stein, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Craig
